Do We Still Believe in Fairytales?

When we were younger, we believed without shame.
In fairytales.
In eternal love.
In something that lasts.
Not because we were naïve,
but because we hadn’t learned how to protect ourselves yet.
Growing up taught us to be careful.
Not to promise too much.
Not to expect too much.
Not to believe too much.
We were told that fairytales don’t exist.
That love changes.
That everything ends.
And maybe that’s true.
Or maybe it’s just easier to say so.
Believing in fairytales today
feels like a weakness.
An illusion.
A waste of time.
But what do we really lose
when we stop believing?
It doesn’t matter who it is.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s him or her.
Or how the story looks from the outside.
What matters
is that the love inside.
Not because it lasts forever,
but because, while it exists,
it is real.
Maybe love isn’t what fades.
Maybe it’s us
who stop staying.
Staying when it’s easy.
Staying when it’s hard.
Staying even when it’s not perfect.
Fairytales don’t promise a life without pain.
They promise presence.
And there is nothing more beautiful than love.
If it lasts.
If it doesn’t.
If it fades.
Love is always beautiful and should be internally eternal.
What changes
is what we choose to do with it.
