Whose voice do you miss?

Maybe it’s someone
you haven’t spoken to
in a long time.

Maybe it’s someone
you still talk to every day,
but somehow
it doesn’t sound the same anymore.

Maybe it’s your own voice
from a time
when you didn’t think so much
before speaking.

The strange thing about voices
is that they stay with us.

A laugh.
A way of saying your name.
A sentence you can still hear
exactly as it was.

And sometimes
you don’t miss the person.

You just miss
the way you felt
when you heard them.
