Time or freedom?

Another hour in the morning.
A longer summer.
One more night before going home.
A few more years feeling young.
And we want freedom too.
To leave when we want.
To stay when we want.
To change direction.
To start again.
But time keeps moving
whether we feel free or not.
That’s the strange thing about it.
You can save money.
You can change jobs.
You can make new plans.
But you can’t put a Sunday afternoon away
and use it next year.
You can’t keep this summer
for when life gets less busy.
You can’t save being twenty,
thirty,
forty
for later.
The time is here.
And maybe freedom
is choosing what to do with it
while it’s still ours to choose.
Not someday.
Not when life gets easier.
Today.
Because being able to choose
how you live today
might be the closest thing
to freedom we have.
